Tips for your portrait session...what to wear? what time of day?...

Here's a few tips for your next portrait session...

Q. What to wear to a portrait session?

A. These are a few suggestions…not rules…
-Long sleeve or at least 3/4 lengths
-Small prints, strips and solids (avoid LARGE prints)
-Great shoes! Stylish, fun, hip…whatever is YOU!
-Something you can sit, stand, run, and lay in…be up for anything

Q. Any suggestions on what to wear for a family session with people of all different skin tones?

A. I suggest a color palette and then let people choose what they look best in from that color palette. The color palette will consist of complimentary colors. For example…the color palette may be: white, any shade of brown (including khaki), black and a pale blue. So people could wear jeans, khaki or black pants, skirts, white Capri’s a dress…whatever as long as the clothing is in the listed colors. This usually works out the best. If you are having a hard time deciding between a few things…just go ahead and bring them all—I am happy to help you make the final choice,

Q. What do you think about everybody wearing the same shirt or same color?

A. I think the best family portraits look more natural when people are wearing different colors, patterns, and textures, as long as they all work together…color wise. If as a family you are having a hard time with putting something like this together I would suggest wearing similar clothes rather than being unhappy with the possible free for all choices your family may wear.

Q. What time of day is best for portraits?

A. This depends on if there will be children in the photos. If there are children I suggest an early morning shoot. Pack everything up the night before. Make sure the kiddos get a good nights rest. Mom and Dad get up before the kids and get completely ready. Serve breakfast in the car on the way to the shoot and dress them when you get there. After sleep, a full tummy and fresh clothes…they are ready to go! For all other sessions I recommend either morning or just before sunset. Mid day is harsh and not flattering on the skin.

Q. How long before we see our pictures online?

A. We promise 6-8 weeks. Depending on the time of year we may be able to have them sooner. Also, if you are running into a time deadline…please talk to us—we may be able to accommodate you.

Looking for wedding shoes...I know they are hard to find!

I found the shoes above at www.myglassslipper.com

I found these last two shoes at www.lezustore.com

Wedding shoes can be VERY hard to find. I met with a client today and she said her fiance is 6'4'' and so she wants to wear a heel but the ceremony is in the grass. I have heard this many of times and it brings me back to the days when I sold wedding gowns. I thought I would poke around online to see what I could come up with. I also kept in mind that we wear these shoes for like 10 hours that day. So above are some shoes I found (the first pair I picked especially for my client that needs some height without sinking in the grass). If you find any awesome shoe sites--please email them to me and I will add them to my blog!

Oh, one more thing--there is NO REASON your wedding shoes have to be white/ivory unless YOU want them that way. If you want to add some flare/personality into your outfit--your shoes might be the perfect place to start!

A little hair accessory I found as well. This one is from www.tigerlillyjewelry.com
